| For the purposes of this page a "keyword" or "key phrase" is the word or phrase that someone enters into a search resource to find whatever they are looking for. If I am looking to book a flight to Paris I might go to a search engine like Google, for example, and key in the search box "cheap flights to Paris" and Google will then list for me those web pages it feels are most relevant to that question. I want to treat myself to a dish of tiramisu so I might go to Ask Jeeves and enter the query "how do I make tiramisu?". In these examples "cheap", "flights", "paris" and "tiramisu" are keywords and "cheap flights to Paris" and "how do I make tiramisu?" are key phrases. When we are optimising a web site to improve its rankings in the search engines it is of great importance that the site be optimised for the most important keywords and phrases. It is all well and good making sure you are ranked at #1 for a range of phrases but if no one uses the phrases in question to look for what you have to offer you are no better off. A good customer of ours has a great site selling a wide range of weighing equipment. When we came to optimise his site his request was that he should be #1 for the phrase "weighing equipment" because that was the phrase he believed his potential customers would be searching for. Fortunately we were able to show him that for every person who searches for "weighing equipment" there are 40 who search for "weighscales", 25 who search for "scales", 20 who search for weigh scales" and 10 who search for "weigh-scales". So a site optimised to be #1 for "weighing equipment" only gets about 1% of the market! Another client sells antique fireplaces - or should it be fire-places, or even fire places? Our biggest US client sells helpdesk software as well as help-desk software an is also big in help desk software! I am sure you are now getting the message! If you are going to expend time, money and effort to make your site well ranked in search engines make sure it is for a keyword or key phrase that will bring relevant visitors in worthwhile numbers. Don't kid yourself your site is doing well if it is only #1 for phrases nobody searches on! CLICK HERE TO LEARN HOW WE ACHIEVE THIS OR CLICK HERE FOR DETAILS OF OUR KEYWORD REPORTS |
