Submitting to Directories

We submit web sites to the human-edited directories such as Yahoo, ODP and LookSmart. It is critical this is done correctly as these are now used by so many search engines in conjunction with their own spidered results. With ODP in particular it is critical to get it right, easy to get it wrong and the devil's own job to get it changed if you do get it wrong. Our advice is should not tackle these without being confident you know what you are doing. Mistakes can be very costly and almost irrecoverable, and no one from the directories warns you !

New sites are not accepted into LookSmart without payment of £149 or $199, depending on the service required, and it costs $299 to be reviewed by Yahoo! with no guarantee of acceptance and after that there is a fee of $299 per annum to stay in. We advise our clients as to which of these options are likely to be most beneficial and will prepare the submissions if required.

Submitting to Search Engines

As a minimum we make submissions to those major search engines representing high 90's per cent of all search engine traffic. We also carry out for our clients additional submissions to a large number of lesser search engines and directories, partly for extra traffic they bring, partly to increase link popularity. For each search engine there is an optimum way of submitting to increase the chances of being accepted and, more importantly, there is an optimum frequency of resubmission to achieve and/or maintain good rankings. Some search engines require frequent resubmission to maintain a good position whilst in others you need to stop submitting once accepted.

If you operate outside of the USA we can also submit to international and national search engines and directories. In-house we can handle submissions in French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese and have associates and contacts for many other languages.
